5 Things To Remember About Mountain Biking Trail Etiquette

Most biking enthusiasts love mountain trails for the freedom, speed, challenges, and adrenaline rush they offer. It’s quite a unique experience, and you can easily lose yourself in the fun of it all.

But while having fun, it’s important to remember that mountain trails are often shared with many other adventurous individuals. Some are there to hike, others may be equestrians, while many are there to ride their electric bikes, just like you.

So, in order to make the trail and the whole experience safe and enjoyable for everyone, here are some widely agreed-upon rules and etiquette’s you can follow.

Remember That Pedestrians Have the Right of Way

When riding an e-bike on a mountain trail, you’re generally expected to give way to other trail users like pedestrians and equestrians, meaning that they have the right of way.

Moreover, when passing other people on the trail, always pass from the left and try and alert them of your presence—pleasantly—well in advance.

Don’t Hog Up the Trail

Biking trails can get wide and narrow in places, and ideally, you shouldn’t stop in the middle of the trail, especially where the trail is too narrow for others to pass.

Of course, you’re allowed to stop, but make sure that you’re not stopping in the middle of the trail or just around a corner. Pull over to the side where there’s enough space and, ideally, where you’re in full view of the other trail users coming your way.

Don’t Litter

This goes without saying, but we’ll reiterate anyway. It’s not cool to litter a place that you’re supposed to be enjoying.

Mountain biking trails are used by several people daily. Imagine how dirty it would get if everyone started littering. So, make sure to carry your litter with you until you are back home or near a garbage can.

Littering won’t only make the trail a bad experience for you and others using it, but it’s also the worse way you can thank the environment for providing you with such a wonderful experience.

Don’t Ruin A Lovely Day for Anyone on The Trail

It’s important to remember that everyone’s out on the biking trail for a nice, refreshing experience—you don’t want to ruin that for anyone.

So, make sure all your interactions with other trail users are pleasant and courteous. Give people the benefit of the doubt where you can in case you see someone else not following the trail rules or etiquette—they could be new there.

Keep in Mind That the Animals Were There Way Before You

People often forget this, but we don’t own the trail. Animals and the wildlife in the area have more right to it than us, so don’t ruin their home for them.

Also, in case you come across an animal, don’t scare it, be alert, don’t disturb them, and just go your way.

Also, if you want to experience a better biking experience, invest in a 1000W electric mountain bike, like the ones we have at Power Max E-bike Inc.
